One of the more important dates each year for many Amateur Radio operators is the annual Field Day event. Field Day is the largest on-air Amateur Radio event in the world and will be held on June 28th and 29th. Last year, more than 35,000 hams participated in Field Day in the United States. The Chehalis Valley Amateur Radio Society and the Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) teams of Lewis County will once again jointly participate in Field Day in Lewis County, and you are invited to attend.

Our motto is “When all else fails… Amateur Radio works!” Field Day makes sure we are able live up to those words.

This year’s Field Day event will be held in shelter #1, Borst Park, just off Interstate 5 at Exit 82 in Centralia, June 28 & 29.

Did you know there are 452 hams in Lewis County? Quite a few are new hams licensed in the past six months who have never experienced a Field Day operation. Field Day is a great opportunity to see what Amateur Radio is all about.

2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the Amateur Radio Relay League. Please consider attending this year’s Field Day event at Borst Park. Work a radio, learn how to do something new in Amateur Radio, share some great food or just visit. Even if you just have a few minutes to drop by, we’d love to see you. It’s a great time to learn more about what’s happening in Amateur Radio in our area.

Field Day Events

Field Day is practice for emergencies, an informal contest, a campout, a picnic, and, most of all, FUN!

Six Amateur Radio stations on site will be working all the bands:

  • 2 meter
  • HF
  • Voice
  • Digital
  • Morse Code (CW)

A wide variety of emergency power systems, equipment, antennas, and radios will be available to see and use.

Project classes, a hidden transmitter hunt and a great potluck dinner at 5PM on Saturday will round out the festivities. You bring a side dish and drinks, and we’ll provide hamburgers, hotdogs, buns and condiments.
